It’s coming.  It will be here soon. Before you know it, in just a couple of years, you will be the one people will seek when looking for that one person they can trust to get the job done. Are you ready? Have you started thinking about what you’ll need to be able to do to convince them they’ve found the right person? And that experience part:  How can you get some of that if you have to have it first before they’ll hire you?

You’ve found the right place. In today’s world, nearly anything that’s done is touched, in some way, by technology; specifically, computers and computer-assisted technology. You want to have that cutting edge; the one that gives your profile the kind of attention it needs to land you wherever it is that you want to be:  in a great job that you love, with lots of potential; at the top of the list of people that the college you want to attend is considering for admission; or in a position to start your own business, where you’ll be in charge. The Hayner Public Library District has resources available to give you experience, skills in using current cutting-edge technology, and the poise and presence to be able to sell your talents to others.

Project Next Generation, a program sponsored by the Illinois Secretary of State, is now in its third year of implementation at Hayner. We are excited to be able to offer this twice-a-week, after-school program to emerging sixth graders through exiting eighth graders to give them a special opportunity to learn new skills while having fun. Meeting on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 through 4:45 in the multipurpose room at our Mall location, the program has room for 10–12 teenagers. They will learn about using current computer applications like Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; research diverse topics like the life of Abraham Lincoln or world-renowned explorers; learn how to make a presentation with digital photography or videography; and discover the fun of using SMART Boards to make these presentations. In addition, we are hoping to develop a cadre of Project Next Generation graduates to be mentors to the younger patrons who want to learn how to use our computers and other technological equipment.

Come join us for one of our six-week sessions! There is no cost involved, and the payoffs are huge. Call 433-2861 for more information or to sign up for our next session!
