Last summer, Hayner Library partnered with Jacoby Arts Center and Lewis & Clark Community College’s YouthBuild to install five Little Free Art Libraries throughout Alton! Each Little Free Art Library was carefully hand-built and weatherproofed by YouthBuild students and painted by community members in collaboration with Jacoby Arts Center. They are stocked regularly with art books, art supplies, craft kits, and other artsy materials, all free to take and create with.
To provide free access to art, we need support from you! If your art supply stash is overflowing, you have an abundance of art books and craft magazines, or you’d just like to share your art with the community, please consider donating to a Little Free Art Library. The best way to donate is to drop your materials directly in a Little Free Art Library, but you may also drop off materials at Jacoby Arts Center during regular business hours. If you are donating art supplies that will melt or degrade in hot weather (glue, paint, etc.), we ask that you donate to one of our indoor Little Free Art Libraries.
You can find a Little Free Art Library at the following locations:
The Boys and Girls Club of Alton (2512 Amelia Street, Alton, IL – outdoors)
Milton Schoolhouse (1320 Milton Road, Alton, IL – indoors) Jacoby Arts Center (208 State Street, Alton, IL – outdoors) Alton City Hall (101 E. 3rd Street, Alton, IL – indoors)
