September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and it is the perfect time to get your very own library card or remind family and friends to sign up! A library card opens the door to endless possibilities—accessing books, e-books, audiobooks, online resources, movies, music, and much more.

At Hayner Library, we believe that everyone should have access to the tools that promote and inspire learning, creativity, and community, and your library card is your key to all of this!

Why Sign Up for a Library Card?

• Free access to resources: borrow books, magazines, movies, audiobooks, digital resources (e-books, digital magazines, streaming movies, and audiobooks), and explore our Library of Things, all for free!

• Educational opportunities: from engaging book clubs and story times, to learning new skills, our educational programs and events are designed for all ages.

• Online databases and learning: use your library card to explore a wide range of research databases at no cost.

• Community: be part of a community that values learning, exploration, and discovery through library programs, events, and resources.

How to Sign Up

Signing up for a library card is quick, easy, and free! Just stop by any Hayner Library location, fill out a simple registration form, and you will be ready to start using your card right away.

• Adult patrons must be residents of The Hayner Public Library District and must reside at a permanent residence within the District. Patrons are eligible for a three-year library card.

• To obtain a library card, patrons must present a current photo ID with a current address listed. If the address on the ID is not current, patrons must also present a second form of documentation with the current address (example: a recent utility bill). Age eighteen and older.

• Juvenile resident library cards require a parent or legal guardian to meet the standards listed above for an adult resident library card and must sign an authorization statement on their child’s registration form. The child must be present for the library card to be issued (but not renewed).

• Patrons with outstanding fines from other Illinois Heartland Library System libraries who are now eligible for Hayner Library cards must pay their fines and fees from other libraries before obtaining a Hayner Library card.

• Patrons who wish to renew their Hayner Library cards may do so as long as their Hayner Library fines and fees are less than $5.00.
