Is your basement, garage, or attic filled with tangled ropes of non-working holiday or outdoor string lights? If you’ve been hanging on to string lights with missing bulbs, burned-out sockets, or frayed wires because you don’t want them to end up in a landfill, bring them to the library! During the month of January, drop off your old holiday or outdoor string lights at the Downtown Library or Hayner Library at Alton Square Mall, and we’ll make sure they get recycled. Stop by the library, toss your lights in the recycling bin, and you’re all set (maybe check out a book on your way out the door!). This program is a great way to ensure that the copper, plastic, and glass in your old lights are given a second life and don’t end up in a landfill. Patrons who recycle their lights will receive an eco-friendly bookmark (while supplies last)! Please note: We cannot accept any other types of lighting except string lights.
