The Sacred Marriage of Heaven and Earth in Han Dynasty Art and Architecture
September 23 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

This presentation by Dr. Cory Willmott of SIUE’s Lifelong Learning Institute will focus on the Han Dynasty (202 BCE – 9 CE, 25–220 CE), considered the “golden age” of Chinese civilization from which many elements of Chinese culture originated. At the core of Chinese symbolism are circle and square shapes as metaphors for Heaven and Earth, respectively. Dr. Willmott will interpret circle and square symbolism in Han Dynasty art forms, and then explore examples of them in art forms of more recent times.
This presentation will take place at the Hayner Library at Alton Square Mall. No registration is required!
